The Liberal Democrats say “We will allow people who have been in Britain without the correct papers for 10 years, but speak English, have a clean record and want to live here long-term to earn their citizenship. This route to citizenship will not apply to people arriving after 2010.”

According to the BBC, Lib Dems party officials said “those who qualify will then have to serve a probationary period of two years during which they would have to work and pay taxes.
Then they would have to pay a fee or do voluntary service as “penance” to qualify for full citizenship.”
I like the concept of an amnesty, pulling illegal immigrants into the tax system, it’s got to be better for the economy if we are stuck with them, (and it appears we are, they’ve avoided the authorities 10 years already) for them to be paying into the system fully. I also like the idea of removing illegal workers from the economy forcing businesses that are making themselves more competitive by exploiting illegal immigrants, not paying full wages to their work force etc…, which has got to help businesses that fully comply with all UK legislation to compete.
However, I’m not sure what message offering an amnesty to illegals sends to foreigners (those not already in the country) who see this as an indication that if you can avoid getting caught for long enough, you can become a British citizen, it is rewarding bad behaviour, though avoiding th authorities for 10 years can’t be an easy task (can it?).
At this point not sure if I like the idea enough to want it brought into legislation or just like the concept on an amnesty, but not the reality of what this would mean!!!!
I will give the Liberal Democrats kudos on having an immigration policy that is not going to resonate with the majority of British voters in 2010 with an increasingly negative stance on immigration! It’s so easy for politicians to say one thing at election time and do another when elected, if it isn’t the “we have no plans to…” cop out answer, it’s a down right lie.

What a rubbish policy!! Can’t believe some people think an amnesty is a good idea.
If these people are here illegally how is it possible to know if they have been here 10 years?
Yes the illegals are going to say ” I have only been here for 6 years” are they?
Another point is that they are supposed to be “law abiding” -- so none of them qualify as they have broken the law by illegally entering this country!
OK those working would pay tax (not many in this Labour destroyed climate), but we would pay them every benefit when they weren’t + housing + health care + all their dependants + all their children!!

If the illegal immigrants are already here and not currently inputting into the tax system, they are in turn costing us more money than if we knew about them and made them fully fledged UK citizens (No Driving Licenses, Use of the NHS, Housing, Policing, Immigration etc).
Need I remind you that the reason we don’t know where they are isn’t Lib Dems fault. its the ludicrous open door policy and lax boarder control with no exit checks that got us here. Something that Lib Dem had nothing to do with but are planning to remedy.
Voting lib dem doesn’t mean the “Further & Complete destruction of UK” it means more left wing politics, something that this country needs after all the damage right wing and ‘central’ politics have done. Lib Dems have never been in power so the sweeping statement that voting for them would mean “Further & Complete destruction of UK” is just you guessing without any political information to back up your statement.
Have you read the Lib Dem manifesto?…I have and it reads like a breath of fresh air rather than re-hashed old rubbish that got us into a bad situation as a country.
I know that I definitely don’t want to hand over power to the people that brought us Margaret Thatcher and told us that we should only look out for number one and then went ahead and sold away our infrastructure for a cash injection. I’m 24, she stole my damn milk. Just because its a new face and a new image doesn’t mean that change means change, it means (no) change (from what we have done previously), historical records show that whenever Conservatives come in to power it messes up the country in one way, when labour are in power it messes up the country in another way.
I also don’t want to hand over power to the party that were strange bedfellows with George bush and also helped to mess up the economy in the first place, plus, Gordon Brown is a baby kissing, celebrity toting imbecile, same goes for Cameron.
With that said, all the other parties have their own agenda which I also don’t want to vote for. The green party would be great if our only problem was ‘global warming’, The BNP would be great if we were all racist idiots and so on and so forth.
The bottom line is that Conservative and Labour have both had their fun messing up the country and taking huge wages out of public cash, it may just be time for another party to have a go, if they mess it up we truly are lost. But we know from many years experience that Conservatives and Labour mess the country up every time, so why do we keep falling for it?

What a biggoted view, Many illegal immigrants come from war torn countries, something that we luckily have never had to endure. To assume that all of these people are weak and pathetic is just racist.

one thing I have to add is that you say “all their children” like all illegal immigrants have loads of kids, I would like to see the figures you read from to get that statistic, One assumes that you had statistics to base your statement on and not just your bigoted personal opinion.
Finally, the Lib Dems wouldn’t make it a walk in the park for Illegal immigrants and have also set the cut off date as 2010 for historical citizenship. this is a quote directly from their manifesto:

Do you have any human sense or conscious? As far as I know, the illegal immigrants make a huge contribution to the public services. These people doing the jobs that majority of British dont even want to look at. In able to remove all illegal immigrants will take 20 year with unpredictable costs. Ignore these people means that they dont have to pay tax and they will earn as much money as they can regardless that is criminal job or low paid job, send money to their country and go back home once they get caught. Allow illegal immigrants who can speak english and have no criminal records will bring huge benefits to UK (reduce criminals, tax contribution) because these people show that they are willing to live here and integrate with society.
Myself is an illegal immigrant as well, and i have been here 8 years since i was 15. However, you would be very surprise that i’ve been able work and managed to graduating from a leading university in UK without borrow a single penny from your government. Plus i have got an acceptant to carry on to do Master in a science subject at a top university next year as well.
So if the immigrant system works properly and efficient, then why would i able to do all that. I must have been caught and deported long time a go. I am not saying that i am not saying im a talent but a person with skills that UK needs.
Whether a not to allow illegal immigrant like me or people who willing to bring benefit to this country , i’ll leave it to you to think about.

There is only one advice to those who hate migrants. Line them all up in front of the Parliament and blow their head up. Wipe the surface of the earth of Africa, Asia , India and China among others and rid the universe of all other people but those you like, i.e yourselves.. .. Easy, isolate from the rest of the globe.

Amnesty will only help britans economy.
I have been live illegaly in Britan for 6 year now, aways paying my taxes, I got fake ID’s and fake insurance, wich by the way, Ireland revenue is completelly fail. At this time my insurance number is already registered and not fake any more..
I need a insurance to work… If I work with a insurance I pay taxes…
why do we came to Britan and not to Spain or France ? becase over there they already gave amnesty and the illegaly work is compleatly impossible, we have to register in the police departamet first before try to work, or the employer will not give us work…
but in UK is easy to get fake documentations.
and the employers can’t distinguish if the documentations is fake or not.
I even cross the immigration borders with ID docs.
the immigrations offices in UK are completely unprepared… I wouldn’t try the same in Swichzeland!
But one thing is really not true; that illegal immigrants do not pay tax… we pay all the taxes and some times even more that we should pay… because, if we camplaing in Ireland’s revenue we may get catch, and we dont have any expectation to have it back, because we are illegaly here.
To remove all the illegaly immigrants will cost UK a fortune, and after that Britan will fell for those taxes payer.

Its quite easy for people to judge Nick Clegg and the illegals in the UK. However, they have forgotten that Nick has been the only person to come out with not just a reasonable but the best solution to the problem.
Lets face the fact that Nick did not get the right figures saying that there are 600,000 illegals in the UK, but actually there are over 1.5million illegals in the UK which includes asians, africans from the common wealth countries and are exercising their treaty for the british colonialism in the past…
Are the british (not just caucasians, but all racial backgrounds) ready to do the jobs that the illegal immigrants do?.. e.g cleaning, pizza delievry, mcdonalds assistants, care assistants chinese delivery, ticket attendants etc.. and lets remember all these jobs mentioned are all at the minimum wage of £5.50p/h. Also putting it at the back of our minds that these people do not receive benefits but are increasing our economy.

If you are advocating against amnesty, you are not doing it for the benefit of the country but you are being a racist and a big bigot. Illegal immigrants contributes immensely to the development of the nations economy because they all work and pay tax. They are not lazy and doesn’t go for plenty children. I as an illegal immigrant have worked peacefully in this country for nine good years and i have paid tax likewise thousands of other illegal immigrants that I know. It is time this country learn from Spain and Italy. These nations are benefiting greatly from immigrant in the sense that they grant them amnesty all the time and they have to renew their papers every year but before doing so these immigrants have to provide proof that they have worked and pay tax for the year so as a result they are no illegal employment in these two countries. All immigrant are working and contributing to the development of their economy. What will Britain loose as a nation from illegal immigrant that pay hight rate of tax and are afraid to complain, they don’t go to NHS because they might get caught; they are not on benefit of any kind because they are not entitled to it. All the immigrant want is to be able to work and go home and see their family some times, especially to bury their love ones when they pass away, they don’t need your benefit because they are strong. I don’t want to go into history here because it is the past and I will leave it there but I will advice you, Suzie to go close to immigrants and understand their lives and what they go through before condemning them. I have a friend who has a five year old child. He is from Africa and the little girl is suffering from a disease called Sickle Cell Anaemia
It has no cure and no hope for her in Africa but the home office are going to deport them, this is a child born here…please can we fight for her and her family, remember the British had done a lot of havoc in Africa in the past
