Bosses at Cambridge University are trying to take away the 2:2 honours degree in law gained there by the British National Party’s Chairman Nick Griffin because they believe it might be loosing them fees from foreign Muslim students who could be put off coming to the university.
It would be the first time EVER in the history of British higher education that an ex-student’s qualification has been revoked.
Cambridge’s governing body passed a motion to annul Mr Griffin’s degree on Wednesday. The proposal has now to be ratified by the vice-chancellor to become official.
Spokesman Tim Holt said: “This is highly irregular, but well within the limits of the governing body. The university can’t afford to be connected with such a widely-reviled figure.”
Nick, who graduated from Cambridge’s Downing College in 1980, was also boxing blue. Presumably the university will be taking steps to eradicate this as well . . . just a bit record book burning to completely remove all traces of the BNP chairman’s education there.
It will be interesting to see what academia makes of this attempt to re-write history and doctor university results, with the ensuing debate looking guaranteed to grab the headlines for the British National Party in the run-up to the General Election.
